Can YOU spot the three 10 Year olds?

Thank you for visiting the official Website for the Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Club. Whether you are a member looking for information on events or someone that is trying to gather information on the breed we hope that you find this site useful as you navigate through.

Yes, they can be great with kids, can have wonderful temperaments and make great family companions. They can be loyal, confident and brave — A dog that will enjoy life by your side. They are a part of the family... they can even like the cats.

However, the Bernese Mountain Dog can suffer from serious health issues such as genetic cancers, orthopedic problems, eye diseases, heart abnormalities... just to name a few. It is because of these problems that our time with them is often much too short.

Yes, their average life expectancy is 7 years.

The Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Club is dedicated to providing education and support to consumers. Unfortunately “problem breeders” in the United States and in foreign countries are on the rise.
As a result, Bernese Mountain Dogs requiring rescue, placement in new homes, and even euthanasia is sadly increasing. We have breed stewards in nearly every state, available to answer your questions and assist you in your search for a Bernese Mountain Dog.

For both your happiness and the dog’s, please thoroughly research the breed and the breeders before you buy. Even if they claim to be, not all breeders are ethical and all puppies are not created equal. That adorable puppy may grow to be an adult too large or in need of too much medical attention for your family to properly care for financially or emotionally. Tour our site and if you don't find the information you are looking for, contact any officer, director or any committee member with your questions. We would be glad to help.

Browse our site for more information about the Bernese Mountain Dog, to find BMDCA Breed Stewards and How to Find an Ethical Breeder. Don’t hesitate to contact any officer, director or any committee member with your questions. We are here to help.

Also make sure to visit the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America’s website at: www.bmdca.org for more information on this wonderful breed.
