Name: Toby (Updated 7/10)

Sex: Neutered male

Age: 20 months old

Weight/Size: about 90 pounds

Origin: Toby is from the Traverse City Area and is being given up because he has bitten 2 of the owners and they are concerned that he may injure someone else.

Health Issues: None that we know of.

Behavior Issues: As mentioned above his bite history. From the sounds of his owners he seems to maybe have a fear responds and resource guarding. He is trained and is loving. He loves to play but is not a very self confident dog. He needs another dog that is confident to show him things are OK. He needs to be crated when left alone because he may get into trouble when he is bored. He is crate trained and does well for 6- hours. He has some housebreaking problems when he is nervous. He has left a trail of urine. Once he has become comfortable here the issue went away.

Temperament: He is a VERY affectionate boy. He has attached himself to us and likes to climb up on our lap. In his old home he was never off a leash so free run of the yard was new to him. He now goes out on his own but wants to keep us in site. He plays well with other dogs, and will chase the cat. We don’t know how they will do with young children, but we can’t evaluate that. His possessiveness for things that he is not supposed to have has gotten much better. When we tell him to drop it he usually does. We are able to take things from him which is when he bites in the past.

Current Location: the Whiteside house.

Needs a home with: A fenced yard is going to be required due to his history for his protection and for the protection of others, no young children because he may try to be possessive over them. He would do best with a confident dog as a companion. Would do well with Lindy as they are great friends.

Name: Lindy

Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 2 years old

Weight/Size: about 95 pounds (a little chunky)

Origin: Her breeder is a well renowned breeder with a full health history and pedigree

Health Issues: Lindy may have a knee issue from and abuse injury in her old home

Behavior Issues: She is a confident female that is dominant over some of our dogs. She is not mean about it she just mounts some of the males. She has a sense of humor and is a funny girl. He has a history of biting people that came into her front yard. We was contained by an invisible fence and restricted to the front of her home where she was left alone to protect the yard. So she did her job too well. She loves people and just does not need to be put into that position. She loves new people when they come in to our house. We have seen no issues at all.

Temperament: Very sweet with us and the neighbors. We think that her situation was just not right for her and do well if she has free run of the home and when outside be confined to the rear of the home without having to feel she needs to protect it. We don’t know how she will do with young children, but we can’t evaluate that. She had small children in the old home without issue with them.

Current Location: at the Whiteside home

Needs a home with: Lindy needs a home with a real above ground fence due to her history. She loves to play with other dogs and by herself tossing things around. She loves playing fetch and chase. She is fine with cats. Toby and Lindy are great friends and would do well together.

Name: Margo & Maddie

Sex: Spayed Females

(as of 7/22)

Age: 4 years old (approximate)

Weight/Size: Maddie 83 lbs, Margo 86(a little chunky)

Origin: There Breeder is unknown. They were given to a medium sized commercial breeder 2 years ago. They have never been give names they were just called “Hey You”. Reportedly he was giving them up because they would not reproduce, although Maddie appears to have had at least 1 litter.

Health Issues: None that we know of although they both get up slowly. Maybe a hip problem, or from never being out of the kennel.

Behavior Issues: Both girls are very sweet. Margo is a little more reserved but is more open to giving you her belly to pet. Maddie loves to get attention and would rather be petted than eat. They have been here a week and get along well with our dogs and ignore the cats.

Temperament: Very sweet with us and the neighbors. Their tails never stop wagging. They have no training at al but seem smart they go to the door when they need to go out, so far. They had never been inside before, now they don’t want to go out. We don’t know how they will do with young children, but we can’t evaluate that. They have been in the house at night the last few night without any problems.

Current Location: at the Whiteside home

Needs a home with: They need someone willing to show them what life is supposed to be like. They will need patience with training an older dog. They have no training so a real fence will be required because they don’t know anything else. They do not need to stay together, they were kenneled several pens apart, but with other dogs. They are used to smaller dogs and did well with the puppies we acquired at the same time

NOTE: their adoption will be higher because we had to spend rescue funds to acquire the dogs. Along with the spaying, shots, heartworm meds and stool checks (all negative).

Name: Berta & Sheldon

Sex: Intact male and female

Age: 8 weeks old

Weight/Size: Berta 13 lbs Sheldon 11 pounds

Origin: There Breeder is the one described above. They are the product of in breeding by accident.

Health Issues: None, they had hookworms and coccidia.

Behavior Issues: None, they are puppies!! Although Sheldon is a little more timid but both had done great catching up on socialization and dog/dog and dog human interaction.

Temperament: Again, they’re puppies. Both like to wrestle with their sibling, cry when they are hungry, and pee whenever you are not looking.

Current Location: at the Whiteside home

Needs a home with: A family willing to take them to puppy classes, take them places so they can see the world.

NOTE: their adoption will be higher because we had to spend rescue funds to acquire the dogs. Along with the shots, heartworm meds and stool checks worming. A contract requiring spay/neutering will be required and a refundable deposit of $200 with proof of spay or neuter. It\f failure to alter by a preset date will require forfeiture of the dog and it will be reclaimed by the rescue.

Needs a home with: yet to be determined, we will post more once we start the evaluation process.
